Crown level clumping in Norway spruce from terrestrial laser scanning measurements

چکیده

The clumping of coniferous needles into shoots is widely acknowledged as a structural feature that cannot be ignored in radiation regime models forests. However, higher level clumping, i.e. the aggregation leaves and tree crowns forest stands, still rarely accounted for models. Clumping reduces light interception increases penetration depth plant stand. To improve with respect to this parameter, we propose method can quantify at different hierarchical levels by estimating silhouette total area ratio from point clouds acquired laser scanners. Our based on attenuation coefficients voxel grid, subsequently computing leaf spherically averaged crown or We tested our empirical data young Norway spruce trees, where compared destructive photogrammetric reference measurements. accuracy estimates depended strongly size, sizes below 10 cm side length exhibiting up 100% than area, large voxels 90 being closest measurements due clumping. varied less size were slightly estimates. analyzed possible error sources out ways conifer trees using scanning data.

Can Leaf Water Content Be Estimated Using Multispectral Terrestrial Laser Scanning? A Case Study With Norway Spruce Seedlings

Changing climate is increasing the amount and intensity of forest stress agents, such as drought, pest insects, and pathogens. Leaf water content, measured here in terms of equivalent water thickness (EWT), is an early indicator of tree stress that provides timely information about the health status of forests. Multispectral terrestrial laser scanning (MS-TLS) measures target geometry and refle...

Generating Building Outlines from Terrestrial Laser Scanning

Terrestrial laser scanned point cloud is a valuable data source for automatic building reconstruction. Detailed building facade structures from wall, roof, extrusion etc., can be recovered from the explicit three dimensional coordinates in the laser points. This paper presents our approach which generates building outlines semi-automatically from recognized building features. First, concave pol...

Extracting Windows from Terrestrial Laser Scanning

With the high density point clouds obtained with terrestrial laser scanning, detailed building facade structures, such as windows, can be recovered. There are usually only a few laser points available for windows, because window frames are small parts on walls, and window glass reflects no laser beam. Insufficient raw laser information makes it very difficult to recover reliable geometry of a w...

Control Measurements of Crane Rails Performed by Terrestrial Laser Scanning

This article presents a method for measuring the geometry of crane rails with terrestrial laser scanning (TLS). Two sets of crane rails were divided into segments, their planes were adjusted, and the characteristic rail lines were defined. We used their profiles to define the positional and altitude deviations of the rails, the span and height difference between the two rails, and we also verif...
